The story behind the work
About this work
We are in Paris. It is summer and the windows are open.
It is quiet, the city is relatively deserted because of the holiday period.
A young man is listening to a woman, explaining how to mix materials and come up with the best product.
He is an apprentice and is keen to learn a trade. She is experienced, competent and generous.
She is eager to impart her knowledge and insight on her profession.
She excudes confidence, he is smiling because he likes her and secretely admires her.
There is a complicitly and a mutual beneficiary engagement, remeniscent of centuries of vocational training culture, where the tradecraft was passed on from generation to generation.
