The story behind the work
About this work
There is war; there has always been war, but we must live and enjoy.
He is frivolous and she is exhilarated to be with him. Or is he running away from his duties and is she terrified by what is about to happen? She could be mad Meg, the renowned city fighter, or a concubine?
He could be Napoleon; he is a short man with his typical haircut, with a single-minded focus, not open to being distracted by his surroundings.
The house may be on fire, there may be smoke everywhere and bombs or drones may rain down, he is determined to forge ahead. Perhaps the scheme that drives him is more a private matter, of lesser importance to society at large, as he is dressed in a chamber robe.
But then it could also be the casual nonchalance of the super-privileged, who rule at every moment of their existence, regardless of dress code.
